Converting your religion for getting married

We ( me and my roomie) had this wonderful argument till the wee hours yesterday night about the righteousness of a person converting to a different religion not based on beliefs and values but based on convenience . The crucial question is when two people belonging to different religions are getting married should one of them get converted to the others religion just for the sake of convenience and for acceptability in the society.

We took couple of examples and in all those things what was clearly happening was that it was the girl who was converting to the boys religion. My question is "Is this right?" . Because your conversion is not based on values , but for convenience and acceptance.

Or am I putting too much stress on religion....We must just think that all religion are a path to God and changing it on paper shouldn't matter as long as it helps you achieve your oneness with Him.

For atheists well , it doesn't really matter isn't it :)

I dont agree that always girls convert to the boys religion.
Its people from the stronger/obstinate/orthodox religions that force the other person to convert.

Very very rearely would you see a devout Christian converting to Hindusim ? Again, I repeat a devout Christian and not a person who would go to a church once in 6 months.

Its more of a convenience or a Jugaad to get things moving. Suppose a person wants to marry a person from another religion, then the parents of the person in then more conservative group think "What would our relatives think? What would they say ...blah blah..." So placate them and these fears they force the more submissive group to give in. So if the person converts then they can kind of defend..you know.

Also, unfortunately, Hinduism does not guarantee a place in heaven if you convert or kill a person from another religion. So not much of an incentive.

My religion was Windows (forced). I have now converted myself to MAC for various reasons. Hurray!

Having said that, I don't see chances of getting myself married.
